ARSENAL youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the hero for England Under-21s last night in Reykjavik as he scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 win against Iceland in the UEFA 2013 European Championship qualifying match.
Signed from Southampton during the summer, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been in excellent form for the Gunners as a bright spark in a dismal season at the Emirates. He continued his good run with two first half goals and a third early in the second half to ease Stuart Pearce’s team to a comfortable victory.
Oxlade-Chamberlain opened the scoring on 12 minutes when he finished off a Marvin Sordell through ball to slip the ball past the advancing goalkeeper.
A blunder by the Icelandic stopper, Arnar Darri Petursson, who dropped a Nathan Delfouneso cross, gave Oxlade-Chamberlain a tap in.
His third also saw Petursson give a hand as he pushed Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross into his net on 49 minutes.
