ARMTHORPE’S John Richardson won Doncaster Bowls Association’s Gentlemen’s Merit for the second time, beating first time finalist Steve Shannon (Unison) in the final at Denaby.

Richardson, last year’s runner-up, had easy wins in his first two games before a slightly harder semi-final, while Shannon was made to fight all the way in his three games.

Richardson took an early 6-1 lead in the final, before his opponent closed to 6-5. The Armthorpe man then went 9-5 ahead, only for Shannon to level at 9-9. Richardson then used his experience to forge ahead 18-11, and despite a brief rally from Shannon, Richardson finished a 21-14 winner.
