Ex-Eagle Martin goes for veteran glory

FORMER Sheffield Eagles half-back Martin Pearson is bidding for some late career glory with amateurs Featherstone Lions tomorrow.

The Lions are the underdogs as they face defending champions Bramley Buffaloes in the Co-operative National League Three Grand Final at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

Pearson played for the Eagles in the 1999 season - their last in the Super League. Now at the veteran stage he is back at the club where he began in the game.

The game is one of the three finals for the clubs outside the Super League.

Castleford Tigers will face Widnes Viking in the National One Grand Final with the winner promoted to the Super league. In the National Two promotion final Oldham play Featherstone Rovers.

n Meanwhile, coaches are needed to work with some of the best young rugby leagues players in South Yorkshire.

They will take charge of the Service Area sides from under-12s to under-15s. There are openings for head coaches, assistants, team managers and match day managers.
