ROTHERHAM’S Russell Downing says he is fulfilling a childhood dream by being selected to two of cycling’s most famous races.

The 34-year-old will take part in the Tour of Flanders on March 31 and the Paris-Roubaix race on April 7.

Downing, who rides for the NetApp-Endura team posted on Twitter: “My childhood dream of riding Flanders and ROUBAIX is finally going to come true .. Thx @NetAppEndura #overthemoon.”

Paris-Roubaix is one of cycling’s oldest races. It was first staged in 1896 and is famous for the stretches of cobble stones on the route.

The Tour of Flanders also has cobbled hill sections and was first raced in 1913.
