Doubles League title hopes boost for Armthorpe

ARMTHORPE returned to the top of the Doncaster Bowls Association Doubles League Division One table with an 84-54 win over Thorpe Marsh Bentley.

Adam Jones and John Richardson (21-8) helped give Denaby a valuable 77-58 win over title rivals Carcroft. Rossington pipped visiting Yorkshire Main 74-71. Craig Rumney and Hannah Brown (21-5) and Ivor Wilson and Dave Smith (21-8) performed well for Pilkingtons as UNISON were dragged back into the relegation fight following their 80-47 defeat.

Barry Tomlinson and Pete Strutt won 21-9 as Thorpe Marsh Bentley (81-68) almost reached safety from relegation, while beaten Rossington still need a good result from their last game.

Armthorpe posted an 84-60 win at fourth bottom UNISON. Thorne’s relegation from Division Two was confirmed after Norman Averill and Craig Bamford (21-7) wrapped up a good win (83-58) for Hexthorpe.

Dave Rogers and Neil Langley won 21-5 as Westfield Park clinched the league runners-up spot with a 76-56 win over Askern.

League leaders Armthorpe suffered their first away defeat of the season as Joan Smith and Paul Rumney (21-4) and Rob Thompson and Calum O’Brien (21-7) won well for Pilkingtons Rec C in their 76-44 Division Three win over Armthorpe B.

Robert Thorpe and Terry Walton (21-5) and Janet Dodsworth and Norman Whittaker (21-4) helped Denaby B beat Carcroft B 84-64.
