Double joy for Helen

Hope Valley based teenager Helen Spalton was a double winner at the National Pony Club Championships in Nottinghamshire, the climax of the competitive year for riders under-21.

Helen won her individual sections in both the Intermediate Eventing Championships and the Intermediate Dressage finals.

She was representing the High Peak Hunt with her 14.2hh chestnut Welsh Cob gelding Honey Duke.

“In the Eventing finals, Helen had a dressage score of 31.8 and then jumped a double clear, coming home inside the time cross country, to finish equal first in her section,” commented her mother, Rosie.

“She qualified Honey Duke for the British Eventing Pre Novice Championship at Aston-le-Walls in Northants last month too."

Helen then performed in the dressage finals where she earned a score of 74.44 per cent and went on to finish fourth in the overall ride-off, contested by the top riders from each of the six sections.
