Double gold for Robinson-Baker in Sheffield

Olympian Nick Robinson-Baker claimed a pair of gold medals on the opening day of the British Gas Diving Championships in Sheffield.

Robinson-Baker, who turned 23 yesterday, celebrated in style with success in the men's 1metre springboard before claiming the 3m synchro title alongside Chris Mears.

Mears proved a more than adequate replacement for Robinson-Baker's usual partner Ben Swain, who he teamed with to claim seventh place at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but is currently sidelined by injury.

In the women's 10m synchro Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow won gold while 13-year-old Alicia Blagg further cemented her promising status by retaining the women's 1m springboard she won at the British Gas National Cup in February.

"I am really happy with the win," Blagg said.

"This year has seen me take a step up and after the gold medal at the National Cup in February, this performance shows I'm improving all of the time.

"I have set myself goals this year and one is to represent my country at the Commonwealth Games. Hopefully today's performance will put me up there for selection to Team England."
