Prop Tom Davies suffered knee ligament damage in the first half of Friday night’s 24-12 defeat at Bristol - an injury which meant fellow prop Colin Quigley had to play the full game – and faces being out for over a month.

With Ross Davies, who missed the trip to Ashton Gate, expected to be out for a couple more weeks, Griffiths is hoping to be able to bring in a replacement this week.

The Welshman brought in Romanian international Stephen Hihetah, on trial at the club, as cover for injured centres Mat Clark and Andy Bulamakau.

Despite Knights suffering their first away defeat of the season Griffiths said he expected the players to be in good spirits when they reported back for training today.

“Although we lost I thought the players did themselves and the club proud on Friday night,” he enthused.

“They were gutted to come away with nothing as a result of a 77th minute try which robbed us of a losing bonus point. But they came away with a great deal of pride.”

Griffiths was full of praise for the way his side defended, particulary late in the first half when down to 14 men, to hold on to their 12-10 lead.

It wasn’t until winger Dougie Flockhart was sin-binned midway through the second half that Bristol regained the lead. Griffiths was unhappy with refereering decisions in a second half which saw the penalty count overwhelmingly in Bristol’s favour.
