That’s the message from Clive Griffiths - who is taking extra inspiration from Europe’s Ryder Cup stars ahead of Doncaster Knights’ duel with Cornish Pirates this weekend.

Doncaster’s director of rugby has pinpointed his team’s planning as key to their memorable derby win at Yorkshire Carnegie on Sunday, something also very evident in Europe’s defeat of the USA.

Griffiths said: “I have to pay a huge tribute to all the players and coaching staff for the preparation that went in to Sunday’s game.

“When you’re meticulous in your planning, as you saw in the Ryder Cup at the weekend, you get the results.

“We’re absolutely delighted with the bonus point win. I don’t think anybody would have given us much chance of that but we did it and it is credit to all the team. I wont mention any stand outs because everyone played their part.

“It was a terrific team performance, showing a great deal of character to bounce back from the Worcester defeat,” he added.

Knights 32-23 win at Headingley also saw them claim their first bonus point of the season - a habit Griffiths is keen to extend.

“We now have three wins from four games and most important 13 points on the board,” he said.

“Wins and losses and draws can sometimes be a bit false because of the bonus points system.

“We always want to win but as we know from last season it is the bonus points that determine where you finish.”
