Doncaster Knights: Clive Griffiths upbeat ahead of Bedford Blues test

So says director of rugby Clive Griffiths after seeing his side suffer a heart-breaking 23-21 home defeat against Rotherham on Sunday.

“They’ll fancy their chances because that’s now six in a row we’ve lost in the Championship,” said Griffiths.

“I don’t think the fact that we beat them twice in the B&I Cup will count for anything.”

But he claims that Knights can again lower Bedford’s colours at Goldington Road.

“We might have lost against Rotherham but there were so many positives to come out of the game,” he said.

“Unfortunately we only came away with one point not four.

“The errors we made and the penalties we gave away were absolute game-changers.

“We can take a lot forward into this weekend’s game at Bedford.

“We dominated up front apart from their off-the-top lineout which was very good.

“For most of the time we dominated the defence.

“They only bust us once through the middle and once on the edge.”

Despite the fact that Knights remain second bottom, Griffiths remains upbeat.

“When my head goes down I won’t be here, it’s a simple as that,” said the Welshman.

“There will be no white flag going up while I’m here.

“As things stand we are 11 points clear of Plymouth and three more wins, at most, will do it so it remains in our hands.

“Bedford and Jersey are both huge games and we’ll be targeting them as wins as we did last weekend.

“We know how to beat Bedford but it’s a horrible place to go – their pitch has more slopes than the Rhondda Valley!

“They’ll be buoyed up after beating Moseley last weekend and they could say they didn’t take the B&I Cup seriously, but anyone who was down at Goldington Road that night would refute that.”
