DONCASTER BOWLS: Mick Boyd makes it double success

WOODLANDS Park’s Mick Boyd became only the seventh player to have won both of Doncaster’s veterans singles competitions when he added the Pensioners (Over 65) Merit to the Over 60s Merit he won in 2009.

He beating 2007 runner-up Elizabeth Hall in the first round and then defeated two times winner John Clewer in the semi-final before facing UNISON’s Keith Huckerby in the final.

Appearing in his first ever competition final, Huckerby showed no signs of nerves as he quickly opened up a 5-1 lead. Boyd hit back to 16-9, and although Huckerby closed to 16-13 the result was never in doubt.
