Doncaster Bowls Association: Nobody to follow Christine Cox

MEXBOROUGH began their Doncaster Bowls Association Saturday League Section A derby match at Denaby with a 21-9 win from Christine Cox, but failed to register another winner as Martin Scott (21-9), Arthur Watson (21-3) and Colin Squires (21-7) gave the home side a 198-135 victory.

Armthorpe were beaten 173-168 in Section B at Parklands despite a 21-5 win from Keith Huckerby.

Captain Graham Garnett won 21-1 for league leaders Westfield Park as they preserved their unbeaten record with a 170-147 victory over Carcroft, for whom Malc Warren won 21-8.

Carl Perks’ 21-5 win for Hexthorpe made little difference to the overall result as they suffered a 190-161 Section C defeat at Askern.

Jean Birch (21-9) and George McLean (21-4) were good winners for Parklands B, but Doreen Heptinstall (21-8) and Enoch Walker (21-9) helped secure Brodsworth a 173-151 success.

Bawtry B posted a 203-136 Section D win over Pilkingtons Pensioners.

For the second time this season, Thorne Colliery left the Harvesters green with 11 points, as Brian Turner (21-9), Harold Hawson (21-2), Rose Greaves (21-9), Ces Fowler (21-7) and Roy Walker (21-8) put in good performances in their 198-109 away win.

Eric Buxton’s 21-8 win proved decisive for Askern in their 148-141 Over-60s League Division One win over Armthorpe.

Barbara Royston (21-8) and former league secretary Liz Hall (21-9) were on sparkling form for Parklands, in their 151-124 win over Pilks Rec, for whom Mick Baker (21-9) provided the best response.

Rodger Mortimer (21-4), Malcolm Allan (21-5), Ken Waddington (21-7) and Dave Concannon (21-1) won well in Roundwood’s 151-85 victory over Tickhill.

Mick Finley (21-6) rescued the match for Thorpe Marsh Bentley in their 157-142 home win over visiting Bawtry.

Joan Job and Daryl Lysons both won 21-7 to give Carcroft a 144-129 Division Three victory over Pilks Pensioners, despite having only three of the eight individual winners.

Eddie Curtis and Archie Faulkner (21-6) and Nora and Eric Buxton (21-7) did well for Askern in their 75-52 Over-60s Doubles League Division One win over Rossington.

Hazel and Reg Cuthbert (21-4) were the best pairing in Bawtry’s 84-44 win over Armthorpe.

Mick Finley and Roger Elston (21-8) and Barry Tomlinson and Pete Strutt (21-4) helped Thorpe Marsh to a 84-40 win over Thorpe Marsh Bentley.

Thorne began their 80-57 Division Two win at Carcroft with a 21-8 win from Roy Walker and Melvin Wilson, and wrapped it up with Harold Hawson and Carl Dallas winning 21-7.
