Disgust at state of affairs at Wednesday

I AM writing to you to express in the strongest terms my disgust and unease at the state of affairs at Sheffield Wednesday, formerly one of the great names in football's grand history. The last decade has not been kind to the Owls. We have tasted time and time again heartbreak on the pitch, relegation not only from the Premiership but also to the third tier of English football, seeing the likes of Chris Waddle, Paolo Di Canio, Des Walker and David Hirst replaced by the kind of journeyman foo

However, that is football. On the pitch, I can accept the way the cookie crumbles - it is simply a reality of sport. But this is not why I feel moved to write to you.

Under the proclaimed auspices of needing to 'protect its reputation and the reputation of its directors', it appears that SWFC PLC has made moves to take legal action against its own fans for supposed 'untrue and damaging statements' made on the most popular of the club's independent fan forums online.

I fear for the future of Sheffield Wednesday - because taking such high-handed action will destroy the goodwill, passion and desire of our fans to continue to support this once-great name in the world of football.
