Denaby snatch title with maximum in their last match

WOODLANDS Park chalked up a 201-94 Doncaster Bowls Association Saturday League Section A win over Mexborough.

John Richardson (21-7), Dave Dinnie (21-9), Dave Patrickson senior (21-6), Adam Jones and Sarah Fox (both 21-5), Andy Jones (21-4) and Graham Fox (21-6) all won well for Woodlands Park.

John Dean won 21-9 for Mexborough in their 188-168 win over Thorpe Marsh Bentley. Woodlands Park posted a 199-148 win at Rossington.

Paul Barnett (21-9), Chris Norris (21-7), Dave Rogers (21-8) and Steve Shannon (21-5) all won easily for Westfield Park in their 184-135 victory over Pilks Rec.

Terry Mosley (21-4) and Ken Crowcroft (21-5) starred as Yorkshire Main killed off Roundwood’s title hopes with an 184-149 win.

Ivor Wilson (21-7) and Kevin Richardson (21-9) both performed well for Pilkingtons Rec in their 192-157 win over Thorpe Marsh Bentley.

Roger Elston (21-7) was the best winner for Thorpe Marsh Bentley in their 188-161 victory over Westfield Park. Brodsworth carded a 188-167 Section B win over Bawtry.

After lying in second for most of the season, Denaby snatched the Section B title in their last match with a maximum score 210-143 victory over Askern, which included good results from Chris Jones (21-7) and Vic Greenfield (21-9).

Shirley Keeton (21-5) and Richard Commons (21-7) did well for Armthorpe, but bottom club Hexthorpe won the match (178-129) with Eddie Hailes (21-7) and Carl Perks (21-8) both catching the eye. Roundwood B finished the match in fine style with wins from John Gregory (21-6) and Doug Moore (21-4) helping to secure a 204-142 win over Eden Grove-Peglers.

Sam Davidson (21-5) and Colin Wheat (21-7) gave Yorkshire Main B’s hopes of a Section A away win, but Walter Roden (21-7) and last man Eric Watkinson (21-4) made sure Roundwood C took the spoils 162-156.

Barry Taylor (21-8) and Hannah Brown (21-6) helped Pilkingtons Rec B block Wickersley’s hopes of winning Section C with a 185-156 success. Division Five Bentley faded after a 21-4 win from Brian Acornley and lost 171-163 against Adwick B.
