Davies stars in impressive Athletic win

MEXBOROUGH Athletic chalked up their biggest Doncaster Bowls Association Saturday League Section A win of the season (203-108) against Carcroft.

Mark Davies (21-3), Terry O’Brien (21-7), Christine Cox (21-9) and Barbara O’Brien (21-5) all caught the eye for the winners.

Peter Bilsland (21-3), Tony Blanchard (21-9), Paul Rice (21-7), Mick Baker (21-5) and Charlie Wootton (21-8) all won easily for Pilkingtons Recreation against bottom club Rossington, who had to settle for a 21-5 win from Gary Potter as their only highlight in a 192-124 defeat.

Woodlands Park had good scores from Andy McIntosh (21-8), John Richardson (21-2), Dave Dinnie and Shawn Laycock (both 21-9) and Dave Patrickson senior (21-6) in their 191-124 victory over Yorkshire Main. Tom Boyd senior (21-2), Adam Jones (21-7) and Andrew Jones (21-8) wrapped up the match for Woodlands Park in their 207-134 derby win over Carcroft. Lol Atkinson’s 21-7 win was the only bright spot for Carcroft as they suffered a third heavy defeat (196-152) in a week, with Terry Brelsford winning 21-9 for Westfield Park.

Reg Cuthbert (21-7) stood out for top-of-the-table Bawtry in their 187-168 Section B win over Armthorpe.

Rodger Mortimer (21-8), Nellie Hyner (21-7) and John Gregory (21-9) were the best winners for Roundwood B in their 208-128 victory over Hexthorpe. Bailey Rumney (21-4), Bob Louden (21-9), Paul Rumney (21-3), John Egbury (21-6) and Craig Rumney (21-4)all helped Pilkingtons Rec B post a big 202-109 Section C win at Carcroft B.

Brian Gee (21-5), Ron Heathcote (21-3), Robert Hocking (21-8) and Pat Carroll (21-8) were the best winners for Wickersley in their 204-122 victory at Carcroft B.

Mick Richardson (21-9) and John Grayson (21-8) both won easily for Maltby in their 188-160 victory over Parklands, for whom league secretary Liz Hall (21-9) caught the eye.

Adwick B were always in control of their Section D match at home to Pilks Pensioners (194-143) after a good start from Carol Raven (21-9) and Ron Perry (21-6).

Carol Raven (21-7) was also in good form in Adwick’s 191-118 derby win over Brodsworth B. Bill Fletcher (21-3) and Alan Brown (21-6) also impressed.

Brian James (21-4) and Ron Strutt (21-3) featured for Bentley Colliery in their 170-137 win over Harvesters.

Derek Cartwright (21-6) starred for Parklands B in their 193-172 win over Rossington B. Pilks Pensioners had good wins from Keith Lowndes (21-2), Tommy Edwards (21-5) and Gordon Metcalfe (21-9) in their 185-144 victory over Bawtry B.
