Rossington’s Graham Briggs has set his sights no higher than completing this weekend’s Tour de Yorkshire.

The 31-year-old was JLT Condor’s most successful rider last year but a bout of sickness has disrupted his preparations for the inaugural event.

“I’ve been suffering with a bit of illness recently, so in terms of objectives it’ll be just a case of trying to get round for me,” he said. “It’s just great to be part of the first one. I went on a reccy of the first stage recently and was struck by just how beautiful the ride is. It promises to be an incredible event and hopefully it’ll stand me in good stead for the Tour Series later this year.”

The three-stage Tour de Yorkshire runs from tomorrow through to Sunday and will be live on ITV4.

Doncaster’s Tom Stewart, who rides for Madison Genesis, is also among a star-studded field.
