YORKSHIRE followers will be rooting for Durham today.
Martyn Moxon’s side kept their faint hopes alive of staying in the LV County Championship Division One by defeating Somerset at Headingley in their final game of the campaign on Saturday by six wickets.
Now Yorkshire are hoping for a huge favour from title-chasing Durham, who host Worcestershire in their last fixture. Eighth-placed Worcestershire only need a point to guarantee safety and send the Tykes down.
Aginst Somerset, left arm bowler Ryan Sidebottom finished with figures of seven for 37 to give him a match return of 11 for 98. It was the third time that he has enjoyed a match haul of 10 wickets or more and his 63 wickets in the season are his personal best.
Furthermore, Sidebottom’s match analysis was the best by a Yorkshire bowler at Headingley since he himself grabbed 11 for 43 against Kent in 2000. It was a glittering career-best performance from the former England international.
Yorkshire polished off the last four Somerset wickets for the addition of only eight runs in the morning and then cantered to their 203 target with 22 overs to spare.
