yorkshire bounced back from their agonising Roses defeat with a crushing seven wicket win over Worcestershire in the Pro-40 at New Road yesterday.
Yorkshire had to quickly put behind them the Roses defeat after Lancashire, set 121 off 15 overs, smashed their way to a six wicket win with four balls to spare.
Yorkshire had made 308 with Joe Sayers 75, Adam Lyth 60, Gary Ballance, 57, and Adil Rashid 52, but could not hold off Lancashire’s onslaught in their second innings.
Yesterday, Yorkshire dismissed Worcestershire for 155 with Steve Patterson taking 4-28. James Cameron, 51, and 17-year-old Aneesh Kapil, 44, put on 88 for the fifth wicket.
But skipper Andrew Gale, 56, set Yorkshire off nicely in stands of 59 with Gary Ballance, 27, and 73 for the second wicket with Adam Lyth, 49, as Yorkshire cruised home at 156-3 off 36.3 overs.
Rotherham-born left-arm spinner Shaaiq Choudhry took 1-25 for Worcestershire.
Despite forcing Sri Lanka to follow on, England Lions lost to the tourists by 38 runs at Derby yesterday.
Having trailed to England’s 493 by 227 runs, Sri Lanka made 448 which meant England required 222 to win.
However, they batted disappointgly and were all out for 183, james holdreth making 38 and Samit Patel 35. Ravi Bopara hit 29 and after his first innings 193, Eoin Morgan was out for four. Yorkshire’s Johnny Bairstow made 17.
