JOE Root compiled an unbeaten 110 to help England Lions clinch a 3-2 victory in the unofficial one-day international series against Sri Lanka A with a 117-run win in Colombo.
The Sheffield 21-year-old, who went on to reach three figures from 115 deliveries, starred alongside Jos Buttler, who clubbed a quickfire 64 as the Lions ran up an imposing 330 for six.
Danny Briggs and Samit Patel then took three wickets apiece as Sri Lanka A, who had battled back from 2-0 down in the series, were bowled out for 213 in reply.
Dore-based Root, who plundered almost 1,000 County Championship runs in his first full season in the Yorkshire first team last year, batted at three after Lions captain James Taylor had chosen to bat first.
His other scores in the series were 18, eight and a three-ball duck.
