THE winter destination of Yorkshire batsman Joe Root will now have been decided by the England selectors - and the 21-year-old from Sheffield will learn his fate tomorrow.
That’s when England are expected to name their squad for the tour to India which gets underway in November.
With Andrew Strauss retiring, there is a vacancy at the top of the order and Root is one of those in the frame for a batting place in the squad.
He would appear to have competition from Hampshire’s Michael Carberry but there is talk of moving Jonathan Trott up to open with new captain Alastair Cook.
England coach Andy Flower checked on Root last week although the youngster has just had a blip with low scores in his past three innings.
He did receive good reports from his time with England Lions which carry weight with the England hierarchy.
The issue over Kevin Pietersen will be resolved with tomorrow’s announcement.
Whichever way that one goes - selected or left out - it will create enormous debate.
