Marcus Trescothick established himself as the leading run-maker in the LV= County Championship yesterday with an excellent 189 on the second day of Somerset’s match with Yorkshire at Taunton.
The innings took Trescothick’s tally in the competition to 827, at an average of just under 69, and helped Somerset to a first-innings lead as they ran up 389 for six in reply to 358.
Arul Suppiah made 95 in an opening stand of 257 with his captain, while James Hildreth weighed in with an unbeaten 49. Yorkshire hit back in the closing stages of the day, Ryan Sidebottom the pick of their bowlers with two for 51.
When Trescothick finally fell he became Sidebottom’s 500th first-class victim.
