THERE was defeat for Derbyshire in their opening County Championship fixture, losing by seven wickets to Gloucestershire at Bristol.
Having followed on 186 behind after being dismissed for 157, Derbyshire were indebted second time round to Graeme Smith’s 130 aided by 60 from Chesney Hughes as they reached 331.
However, despite having the home side at 34-3, Gloucestershire recovered thanks to an unbroken stand of 112 between Alex Gidman, 70no, and Ian Cockbain, 59no to win by seven wickets.
*Shane Watson produced one of the most brutal international one day knocks ever seen when smashing 185no off 96 balls as Australia beat Bangladesh by nine wickets in their second ODI.
Watson hammered 15 sixes, the most ever in an ODI, and 15 fours, as he and Ricky Ponting, 37no, put on 160 to overhaul Bangladesh’s 229-7 (Mushfiqur Rahim 81no).
