After another busy time abroad, Richard Kettleborough - recently named the world’s top umpire - will be very much at home next month as one of the guest speakers on the Sheffield Cricket Lovers Society’s winter list.
The one-time Yorkshire and Middlesex batsman from Sheffield played his club cricket for Sheffield Collegiate before embarking on an umpiring career which has gone from strength-to-strength culminating in him being named ICC’s Umpire of the Year for 2013 - a year he finished by officiating in Sachin Tendulkar’s final Test.
He will be speaker at the Society’s February 20th pie and pea evening at Abbeydale.
Also booked is Sir Michael Parkinson for the Society’s 54th annual dinner on Monday, April 7.
The meetings restart next Monday with recently-retired Yorkshire batsman Joe Sayers and on Wed, Jan 22 there will be the Yorkshire Film Archive, showing local footage and plenty of cricket.
Notts Director of Cricket Mike Newell and former England captain MJK Smith are also among those booked to speak.
