Yorkshire’s County Championship hopes appear to be coming to an end after today’s play at Headingley and Chester-le-Street where leaders Durham seized control of their match against Notts.

The Tykes rallied from a woeful start against Middlesex to close the day on 109-3. Skipper Andrew Gale scored 66 to move his team from a precarious 1-2 to 98-2 before edging to John Simpson from the bowling of Corey Collymore.

Durham bowled Notts out for just 78 before turning their first innings of 74-6 into 207-8 at the close.
