Whitley Hall stormed to the top of the Premier Division of the South Yorkshire League bouyed by an astonishing innings by star all-rounder Jaco Castle.
He struck a magnificent 148 not out with 10 sixes and 12 fours - that’s over a century in boundaries alone - as his side amassed 320-4 for a crushing win over one of their title rivals Elsecar.
Castle shared a stand of 194 with Alex Fletcher whose 94 came off 89 balls with five 6s and nine 4s. All after a shaky start when Whitley slipped to 58-3.
Stunned Elsecar, who chased down over 300 on the same ground two years ago, were never likely to produce a repeat and were dismissed for 145, James Ahmed cleaning up the tail with 4-14.
Two other leading sides clashed and Whiston PC’s 168-8 proved too much for Wickersley, 139.
Ex-Wickersley batsman Andy Tomlinson made 43 for Whiston whilst Jordan Bethel made 43 for Wickersley whose lower order was blown away by 20-year-old Sufyan Sayed with 5-12 in six overs.
