Joe Root and Gary Ballance miss Yorkshire’s game against Durham at Chester-le-Street which starts tomorrow.

Both have been pulled out by the ECB as they are required for England training next week ahead of Friday’s one-dayer with Scotland.

Root - who skippered Yorkshire in their defeat to Middlesex this week - led Yorkshire to victory in this fixture last season with a wonderful 182 in the second innings, a knock described as “world class” by Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie.

But into the squad after injury come two of the county’s other England candidates Jonny Bairstow and Tim Bresnan whilst captain Andrew Gale - left out at Lord’s this week - is set to play.
