ANDY Tomlinson’s classy ton helped Whiston Parish Church comprehensively defeat Aston Hall by nine wickets in the South Yorkshire Senior League Premier Division, writes Oliver Ridley.
Tomlinson hit eight fours and two sixes in his century, which he scored at nearly a run a ball, as Whiston PC comfortably chased down 183 to move into second position.
Aston were put under pressure from the off as they were put into bat and were reduced to 94 for 6. But a spirited half century from skipper Rob Ward rescued the innings and saw them post a modest total.
A quickfire century from Shaaiq Choudhry saw Wickersley side beat Darfield by eight wickets at Northfield Lane.
Choudhry raced to 103 not out from 98 balls, having taken 4-71 with the bowl as second-from-bottom Darfield were all out for 167.
A stellar display from Rob Barlow enabled Wath to ease past Houghton Main by six wickets. Barlow ripped through the Houghton innings, bagging 7-29 as they were dismissed for 88. Despite two wickets from Houghton’s Ian Simon, Lesroy Weekes (48 no) steered Wath home.
In a rain affected match, Hallam romped to a 96-run victory over Coal Aston.
Upper Haugh have extended their lead at the top to five points in Division One with an emphatic 95-run win over Collegiate B.
Bradfield VF, meanwhile, slipped to fifth after suffering a heavy defeat at Conisbrough.
