Cricket: Big day for Hallam in prestige final

Have your say

It’s a big day for Hallam CC tomorrow when they play in the South Yorkshire League’s Whitworth Cup Final for the first time.

They take on Whitley Hall who are second in the Premier Division, one above Hallam. The start at Elsecar CC is 1.30.

Whereas Whitley have a recent record in this final of three wins in the past four years, Hallam have never reached any of the 40 finals staged so far.

They did, however, win the Mick Savage Memorial Cup last year - a competition in which their other appearance was a 1994 defeat to Whitley Hall.

Whitley start favourites and last week’s league win over Hallam completed a double. However, in the semis, Hallam did beat league leaders Wickersley, the team they face today in the league at Sandygate.
