Big financial blow for Yorkshire as capacity for Lancashire Roses T20 clash reduced to 25% | Dom Bess's Worcestershire preview

Yorkshire have suffered a significant financial blow after confirming that their sold-out Twenty20 clash with Roses rivals Lancashire early next month will be played in front of 25 per cent capacity at Headingley following the extension of the government’s coronavirus restrictions.

The game is one of the most eagerly-anticipated on the fixture calendar for supporters and sells out every year. But three quarters of fans who had secured tickets are set to be disappointed, with Yorkshire set for the ensuing financial knock-on effect of refunding them.

“Due to the government’s COVID restrictions being extended, the club are disappointed not to host the showcase fixture in front of a sell-out crowd,” a Tykes statement read.

“The Club’s rollback policy has now come into force, with qualified members and T20 Season Ticket holders who have an existing booking being allocated seats for the match.

“The club will offer all refunded ticket holders priority access to seats for the Roses clash in 2022. Naturally, the Club are extremely disappointed following the extension of the government’s roadmap and apologise to those who have missed out on attending the match.”

Yorkshire, meanwhile, are back in Blast action on Wednesday evening at home to Worcestershire, and top the north table as they look to finish in the top four places and qualify for a first quarter-final spot since 2016.

“I have certainly seen a difference to now from when I came in two years ago,” spinner Dom Bess, who had a spell on loan at Yorkshire in 2019, said.

“You can see lads going through the gears. Harry Brook is striking it beautifully. Jordan Thompson with the bat at the end on Sunday, Matthew Waite striking it from ball one.

“People have got confidence, and that is so, so important. Even when games are tricky, we’re finding a way. The really important thing now is rolling this momentum.

“I know Derby had a couple of injuries, so Worcester will be a bit stronger. They’re not going to have Moeen Ali, but they are still a quality side.

“But I just like the way we’re playing our cricket.”

Yorkshire will be without several key players themselves, away on England duty, but Joe Root will again skipper the Vikings.
