Doncaster Town's impressive mid-season revival was halted in emphatic fashion at Wakefield Thornes.

Luke Townsend’s men lost by eight wickets against the league leaders after they were bowled out for a below par 117.

The defeat ended a three-game winning sequence that has seen Doncaster climb out of the ECB Yorkshire South Premier League drop zone.

However, second bottom Treeton’s defeat at Appleby Frodingham means that Town’s safety buffer of 12 points remains in tact.

Doncaster won the toss and after electing to bat made a promising start courtesy of openers James Ward (23) and Joe Gallagher (18).

However, Town collapsed from 39-0 to 47-5 as Thornes pair Mahmoud Rasool and Alika Isanka ran through the top and middle order.

Graeme Attenborough (24) and Michael Topp (27) offered resistance but the visitors could only muster 117 all out in 40 overs.

Isanka bowled well to claim 5-38 and Rasool took 3-30.

Wakefield achieved their success in 28 overs for the loss of two wickets. James Wolfenden was 40 not out at the close.

Town travel to Sheffield & Phoenix United on Saturday.
