City of Sheffield’s Millie Fowler and Millie Haffety produced top quality performances to collect three medals each at the British Gas Elite Junior Diving Championships in Plymouth.
Millie Haffety took the gold medal in the 14/15 years 3 metre springboard competition saving the best until last with her inward 2½ somersault tuck dive scoring 63 points. She then teamed up with Millie Fowler to win another gold in the 14-18 years 3 metre springboard synchro and won bronze on the 1 metre springboard.
Millie Fowler took the silver in the 16+ years 1 metre springboard and bronze on the 1 metre springboard.
Pipping Millie Haffety to the top of the podium in the 1 metre springboard event, Sarah Leach confirmed Sheffield’s strength in depth in the 14/15 years age group. Sarah also won a silver on the 3 metre board while Tia McGarry was a silver medallist in the platform competition.
In the 12/13 years age group, Holly May Prasanto took the3 metre springboard gold.
Sheffield’s final gold came from Owen Harrison in the 14/15 years 3 metre springboard. He completed a full set by taking the bronze platform and teaming-up with Brandon Foster from Southampton to win silver in the 9-13 years 3 metre synchro.
Warming up for the weekend’s British Gas National Championships at Ponds Forge, Ross Haslam won silvers in both the 3 metre springboard and platform events with Elliot Beeden taking bronze on platform.
Head coach Tom Owens said: “Sixteen medals at the nationals including six golds, is a great performance.”
