SASCA turned up with a new player on board four for the Sheffield and District Chess League match against Chesterfield.
But the home side had a new player on top board, and Pablo Cabero duly won alongside team mates Michael Johnson, Andrew Mort and George Peters; Jon Arnott’s win was in vain as Chesterfield leapt up into second place.
Woodseats eased past Barnsley. David Greensmith and Tony Farrell won for the visitors but Harry Russell, John Fletcher, Gunnar Mallon and Shane Frith overwhelmed them.
Leaders Nomads retained their 100% record with a narrow win over Phoenix. Steve Withington, Andrew Hards and Jon Nelson all won while Denis Molofej was Phoenix’s sole victor.
Aughton hadn’t won all season whilst Worksop were pushing for promotion so it was a shock when the home team thrashed their guests - Jim Barker, Dave Glossop, Kevin Marshall, David Watson and Barry Williams all winning.
John Gibbs and Brian England won for Wombwell, whilst Henry Withington and his father, Steve, replied for Nomads in a 3-3 draw.
Pete Locking, Ken Kay and Ron Keenan won for Stannington as they beat Rotherham to hold onto top spot.
Darnall & Handsworth remain close behind after Geoff Brown, Danny Dawson, Geoff Facer and Derek Chatterton all picked up wins against the juniors of SASCA, for whom Ashwin Krishna and David Chenery replied.
