ROTHERHAM United’s New York Stadium isn’t the only important sport development in the town.

Work has started on the installation of floodlighting at Moorgate Tennis Club and will be followed by full resurfacing and painting of the courts.

The work, supported by £50,000 of Olympic legacy funding and a £15,000 loan from the Yorkshire LTA, will cement Moorgate’s position as Rotherham’s premier tennis venue, says the club, and will enable its adult and junior programmes to run year round.

Moorgate’s programme of matches, coaching and social tennis will continue during the work, mostly at Ravenfield Tennis Club, whose members agreed to share facilities.
