Bytheway gives champs Maltby flying start

IMPRESSIVE wins by Dick Lindley (21-1) and Phil Eshelby (21-5) proved in vain for Hexthorpe B as Bawtry B claimed a 160-122 Doncaster Bowls Association Saturday League Section D win.

Sue Moyles won (21-5) for Bawtry who also had a trio - Marcus Thomson, Margaret Smith and Paddy Moyles - of 21-4 winners.

Brian Greaves (21-8) and Roy Walker (21-3) were the best winners for Thorne in their 193-143 win at Carcroft WMC B. Lynn Baxter (21-8) was one of only two winners for Carcroft.

Jack Brown (21-15) and Eddie Dixon (21-10) made winning debuts for Rossington B but could not prevent Pilkingtons Rec B winning 184-162.

Bob Sisman (21-5) starred in Westfield Park B’s 188-155 win over Harvesters.

Midweek League Division One title holders Maltby started their defence with a 164-121 win at Armthorpe, with Chris Bytheway (21-7) best scorer.

Eric Wright (21-7) was the star for Thorpe Marsh Bentley in their 136-134 Division Two win at Bawtry, for whom Len Squire (21-9) almost earned them a draw.

Denaby B carded a 158-124 win over Westfield Park.

Ken Newcombe (21-5) and Dave Wootton (21-1) shone in Pilkingtons Rec B’s 159-111 win over Eden Grove-Peglers.

Paul Rumney (21-7) was the best winner for Pilkingtons Recreation C in their 156-121 Division Three victory over Parklands B.

Rose Greaves (21-8), Brenda Staniforth (21-7) and Eddie Birdsey (21-7) were Thorne’s best winners in their 168-85 Division Four win at Harvesters. There were also winning debuts for Susan Whitehead (21-12) and Melvin Wilson (21-11).
