He was in action at Dunstable in May hoping to improve on the third-place finish in the NAYBC Junior Nationals singles he secured back in 2017.

And the Christ Church Church of England Primary School pupil surpassed all expectations by lifting not one, but two trophies.

Dad Chris told the Derbyshire Times: “He won the singles and the all events titles.

“I think he was the first one of his age to win this competition in 13 years.

“He entered the competition last year and finished third in the singles.

“He’s got a bit better this year and won it.”

Chris says his son was ‘very pleased’ to win both titles, although it was a somewhat delayed celebration.

“We were away on holiday when we were told that he had won,” he said.

“We had to keep checking the website for the scores.

“Whoever has the highest scores combined from the singles, doubles and team events is made all events champion.”

Brandon, who competes in the ‘bantam’ category for the Under 12s age group, was finally presented with his trophies last weekend by his club, at Chesterfield Bowl on Storforth Lane.

His total score from all three events was 1,394, 152 more than second placed Harry Alexander of Eastbourne.
