TWO young guns hope to continue their climb up the city’s boxing ladder tonight.

Adam Etches and Scott Jenkins, both aged 20, take on Bulgarian Daniel Borisov and Sid Razak respectively at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Norton.

Etches’ match-maker, Richard Poxon, will be focusing on a number of factors in their respective bouts.

Etches is a heavy-handed explosive puncher who has KO’d three of his five straight victims. But he’s not the fastest when it comes to leg movement.

Poxon said: “We needed to improve his leg speed and he needs to learn how to get away from opponents quickly, which is why we sent him to the Ingles.

“We knew he was capable of splattering his opponents, now we need to see another side to him as well.”

Etches from Birley, hasn’t been easy to find opponents for. “Adam’s not in the ‘Popular Club.’ People know he can hit and don’t fancy the money for a four-rounder in which they are likely to get whacked.”

For Jenkins, from Chesterfield, this match up will be his third professional bout. In Razak, from Birmingham, he faces a veteran two years short of twice his age.

Poxon said: “Razak is an awkward journeyman, but Scott can be a big puncher too and I am hoping he will be able to stop him.” The pair, and a debutant Ingle boxer, have sold out the show.
