An angry Sheffield boxing trainer says his fighter was robbed of a win in an opposition ring across the Pennines.

Gary Moore, of Riley's gym, Handsworth, claims super welterweight Dom Hunt was: "Ripped off" in the points draw with Wigan's James Moorcroft, in Bolton.

The result in the Commonwealth eliminator was: "Absolutely disgusting...shocking absolutely shocking."

The fighter himself was similarly peeved.

"Absolutely gutted with the draw" Hunt (16-1-1) posted on social media.

"Thought I won the fight by a few rounds...but that’s boxing when you’re the away fighter!

"Big respect to my opponent, we both get out of there healthy after a good fight and we go again.

"Thank you to my fantastic team and all the amazing support...it absolutely means the world."

In return, Moorcroft said it had been a great fight and applauded Hunt's contribution.

"Congratulations to him and his team.

"I felt I edged the fight one or two rounds with the cleaner work and felt a lot of Dom's shots were taken on the gloves apart from a few.

"Picked up a nasty cut somehow in the seventh and got opened up more in the eighth to make it a pretty nasty one."

Doncaster's Reece Mould outpointed lightweight Ukraininan journeyman Mykhailo Sovtus in a six rounder on the same bill.

It was his 19th victory at 22 professional attempts.

Afterwards, Mould was a relieved man, having losing his two previous bouts, in Sheffield and Dublin.

"In my last six fights, they have all been big title fights bar one" he said, happy that he had been pitched in against an opponent against whom he could explore different boxing options.

He hopes to head towards British title level in 2025.

Sheffield's Claire Watts had a disappointing night against Zoe Hunte Smith at York Hall, Bethnal Green.

In an honest assessment of her form to date, she posted: "Have given seven years of my life to boxing. Always gave my all, and dragged myself out of a very dark place I found myself in, before I started to box.

"Unfortunately my mind just isn't in it right now, I don't know what's going wrong.

"I just know I'm not 100% here with it all. Training, sparring and weight has been spot on my first pro fight showed I belong out here as a professional but something is just missing right now when I step into the ring.

"I know I'm a hell of a better fighter than I showed (on Saturday) and I'm truly just disheartened that something was missing in my mind.

"Thank you to everyone for all the messages of support. Going to take some time off and decide where I go with the sport from here."
