Sheffield’s boxing riches continue to grow as Adam Etches and Scott Jenkins go head-to-head on the Hatton Promotions ‘Road to Glory’ bill at the Manchester Velodrome on Saturday June 16.

Despite the two being good friends, Etches has said that he won’t let friendship get in the way when it comes to knocking his opponent out.

The two are the same age, have trained together in the past and get on like a house on fire outside the boxing ring. But an ambitious Etches won’t let any of that stand in his way when attempting to claim his first title.

Etches said “There are a lot of fighters who are mates of mine in the middleweight divisions, but boxing is a business and they are the sort I have to beat to get to the top.”

Both fighters are unbeaten with Etches achieving seven wins from seven fights, five being knockouts, and Jenkins’ winning all five with two knockouts.

Etches has just returned from Las Vegas where he was meant to attend the cancelled Amir Kahn vs Lamont Petersen fight. He said: “The fight was cancelled, but I still decided to go over there. I didn’t go to any specialist gyms, but I ticked over every day in the hotel gym to keep my weight right.”

The fight has added importance for Jenkins as it marks the first anniversary of turning professional and he said: “It has been a good 12 months and I have learnt a lot.”

Jenkins bids to defy the odds by beating pal Etches to cap a brilliant year.

The bill also features Ryan Rhodes v Sergey Rabchenko for the vacant European light-middleweight title fight and Richard Towers v Gregory Tony for the vacant EU heavyweight crown.
