DENNIS Hobson is the man behind Amir Khan’s decision to box at Sheffield Arena on April 27.
The city promoter may also add Doncaster’s Jamie McDonnell to the show - although the Keepmoat stadium is desperate to land their local man’s next fight.
Hobson has been working with Khan’s team to host the light-welterweight contest with Mexican Julio Diaz. It will be his first bout in England since 2011. The Arena show could be angled around an England v Mexico theme, as McDonnell is set to fight Mexican Julio Ceja for the IBF bantamweight title.
Hobson said: “I have brokered the deal for Khan to fight at the Arena.
“Why Sheffield? Well, Khan is world wide icon and can fight anywhere - but maybe it is a bit tongue in cheek to have the fight in Kell Brook’s back yard. We’ll give Kell a ringside seat!”
Brook has responded well to Khan’s local date, tweeting: “I’m happy; it’s here it’s great for the city!”
Anthony Ogogo and Khan’s brother Haroon will be on the undercard, along with other South Yorkshire fighters.
