SHEFFIELD fight fans could be the unexpected winners if Devon Alexander pulls out of his scheduled fight with Kell Brook.

The welterweight is awaiting hard news on speculation that the American IBF belt holder will fight Floyd Mayweather Jr on May 4 in Las Vegas.

“There is no doubt about it, if he fights Mayweather, I will fight whoever is next in line, there is a chance it could be in Sheffield” Brook told pundit Steve Bunce in an ESPN podcast.

“He will be stripped of his title, we’re contracted to fight each other.

“My next fight will be for the title, with Devon Alexander or without him. It’s been a long time coming. I’m 26, I’m in the best possible mental shape I could be. I’m ready to win the world title.”

Brook remains cheesed off with Alexander. He sent him a tweet saying: “Hope you have a great birthday with that belt because it’s the last one you will be having with it.”

Unbeaten eight-fight lightweight Scott Jenkins, 21, says he’d be happy to face local rivals including Sam O’Maison, Joe Rodgers, Sam Matkin, Jamie Sampson and Chad Gaynor. Jenkins fights next at Ponds Forge on April 13.
