Sheffield boxing night to remember

Have your say

CliNTON Woods mentored a young Gleadless boxer to an awesome knock out last night.

Sheffield’s former IBF boss was in the corner of greenhorn Jamie Ward, who hammered Mexborough’s Lee Nicholson to the canvas in the final, sixth round at Don Valley stadium.

There was initial concern for Nicholson’s condition, but he later seemed to have made a full recovery.

In other contests on the Dennis Hobson show welterweight Sheffielder Nicki Smedley returned from absence to beat Bheki Moyo,

Heavyweight David Howe also outpointed his durable opponent, Hastings Rasani.

And super middleweight Reagan Denton enjoyed a dramatic first round KO over Courtney Owen, after a five year absence from the ring.

But Doncaster super bantamweight Andy Roberts slipped up to Hungary’s Ignac Kassai.

Full reports in next week’s star.
