Channel 5 bosses and boxing promoter Mick Hennessy got a bloody nose this afternoon when British title hopeful Jazza Dickens failed to show up for a press conference ahead of his scrap with Kid Galahad on Saturday.

Boxing is a sport that needs all the media attention it can get.

But there were two empty chairs at Napoloen’s Casino, Owlerton, Sheffield as Dickens and his trainer Paul Stevenson failed to appear.

The Scouser and his trainer Paul Stevenson had been in a car which had broken down somewhere on Pennines, claimed the fighter’s manager Steve Wood.

Galahad and the Ingle camp implied that Dickens was either having weight problems or didn’t fancy the glare of publicity before the super bantamweight fight at the Magna Centre, Rotherham.

Galahad (Abdul Barry Awad) said he hoped his opponent would turn up on the night, so he could collect the British title after he had beaten him.
