Serge Ambomo - the boxer who ‘showboated’ at the end of a fight in which rival Jerome Wilson was seriously hurt - has been suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control.
But the action is nothing to do with the incident itself.
It is understood the Sheffield-based Cameroonian scrapper failed to turn up to an Area Council meeting a few weeks ago. Officials were due to speak to him in Huddersfield but Ambomo was seemingly unable to travel there in time. Now he has been banned from competing until their next meeting in January.
Meanwhile luckless Jez Wilson has had to pull out of his local derby fight with Dronfield’s Lewis Taylor.
The pair were due to contest the Central Area middleweight title at Dennis Hobson’s show at Hillsborough Leisure Centre on December 13, but Wilson, a Crosspool fireman, has injured his back at work.
The show’s main local interest will feature Manor Park’s Liam Cameron against Swansea’s Tobias Webb in a Commonwealth super-middleweight title eliminator.
