Shakiel Thompson and Joe Hayden put perfect boxing records at risk

Two popular boxers will put their unbeaten records on the line this weekend and hope to end their night's work with new titles.

On Saturday, Sheffield's Shakiel Thompson - strongly tipped to eventually become a world champion - competes for the vacant IBF International Middleweight title on a Frank Warren card in Manchester.

The 15-0-0 southpaw faces 23-fight boxer Brad Pauls.

Thompson's manager Kevin Maree said: "I just can’t wait to see this fella shine. He’s been waiting for this moment to change his and his family’s lives forever."

Describing the 28-year-old as one of the hardest workers he had ever seen in the sport, Maree said his man was world-class and added: "Time for him to get his rewards."

The show was initially scheduled for January, but was postponed, but Thompson should be in tip-top shape for Saturday's scrap.

Twenty four hours earlier, Conisbrough welterweight Joe Hayden hopes to land the Commonwealth Silver title along with an international belt, his first professional straps.

Looking for his 22nd consecutive win, the Dave Allen trained fighter squares off against another unbeaten fighter, Welshman James Atkins at Doncaster Dome, Doncaster. It is a Bateson promotion.
