Start spreading the news - Rotherham United’s New York stadium is branching out as a boxing venue!

Trainer Ryan Rhodes says plans are afoot to stage a show at the football club soon.

He plans to put Sheffield’s Dave Fidler and Lee Appleyard on the bill, possibly on Friday, July 11.

“It will be a great venue, I’m really looking forward to it” said the former world title challenger.

“Dave lost his last fight (Barnsley’s Lee Noble, iceSheffield, in February) and has had some arthritic-type complaint with his hand, so this is an important fight to him to test that out.

“For Lee, it will be his second pro fight. We are trying to get him down to super featherweight, where he would be a massive puncher. He is a local Rotherham lad, so he’ll love it at the stadium.”

Before that show, Rhodes will be hoping to watch former Blade Curtis Woodhouse collect the Commonwealth light welterweight, by beating Glaswegian Willie Limond at Braehead Arena.

Woodhouse also puts his British strap on the line.
