LIAM CAMERON has ruffled former world champion Clinton Woods’ feathers in a YouTube interview.
The Sheffield middleweight dumped trainer Woods to join the Ingle camp after losing to Jez Wilson for a Central Area title at Don Valley in June. On camera, Cameron, aged 22, said he thought Woods would benefit from more experience and inferred that Woods’ gym did not compare with the championship-breeding ground of the Ingles.
Woods said he felt like “throttling” Cameron after the public remarks. “I am the first to admit I am new to training, but that had nothing to do with Liam losing his last fight,” he said. “It was more to do that he was lazy.
“He couldn’t get out of bed before midday and when he arrived at my gym he was like a zombie. He was like an old man when he was doing circuit training.
“I don’t think he was always truthful with me about his food, either.
“I never failed to make weight in my life, but he struggled before the Wilson fight. I think what he has said was a cheap swipe.”
In fairness, Cameron only made a passing remark about his former trainer, talking also about his next bout, possibly for a British Masters title, on December 15 at the Octagon Centre.
“I want to be in the top 10 of British fighters,” he said. “I am putting all my life and soul into it and I am not going to stop.”
Next year, he wants to land the British title.
