Liam Cameron up against ex-European champion

He may have had just one win in his last four fights, but Liam Cameron continues to be one of the most battle-tested and relevant fighters on the Sheffield boxing scene.

The 35‑year‑old Sheffield light heavyweight returns to action on May 9 in Manchester when he takes on Stretford's Bradley Rea (21‑2‑0) — a tough, well‑credentialed opponent who is looking to bounce back from a recent European title defeat to Lyndon Arthur.

For Cameron, this WBA Inter-Continental defence represents another chance to prove he still belongs at the sharp end of British boxing.

A former Commonwealth middleweight champion, Cameron has been involved in high‑profile domestic clashes with some of the country’s best over the past years - including spirited battles with Ben Whittaker and Troy Jones, and a competitive showing against Lyndon Arthur, who beat Rea in November.

Cameron's exposure helped raise his profile and ultimately earned him a contract with veteran promoter Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions after his first meeting with Whittaker - a bout that ended in dramatic fashion and a technical draw when both men tumbled out of the ring.

The alliance has kept Cameron in meaningful fights on big cards and given him opportunities others outside the elite might not get.

The Rea fight is another such test.

The Mancunian is a former European light‑heavyweight champion and brings a 21‑win resume into the contest, giving this bout real significance for both men’s careers.

Cameron’s connection with his home city remains a huge part of his appeal.

A regular on Sheffield gym floors and YouTube channels, he engages with fans openly and insists his mission isn’t done.

"This fight is going to be a bloodbath, honestly" he says.

"It is going to be a war. It's going to be non stop. We are both going to be in the trenches in this fight."

Cameron rates Rea's "relentless, come forward" style but feels he can overcome it.

"Train hard, fight easy" is his mantra going into the Co-op Live Arena date.

"I am already in a good place, one step ahead."

In a recent video, Cameron said he has not touched alcohol for three and a half years and has been happy to counsel others struggling with their own demons.
