“What is more important to you - winning a new world title, or fighting Amir Khan?”

Sheffield’s former welterweight champion, who is up against Sergey Rabchenko at Sheffield Arena on March 3, took a while to answer.

“That’s a very hard one” he replied.

“I think I have to say, right now, it would be Khan.

“That would be the more exciting of the two.

“Also, it’s probably easier winning a world title than it is to get him to sign a contract!”

Brook, 31, added: “I want to get round the table with him and get it done.

“I have been a world champion and loved it, but the buzz of fighting Khan would be beyond even that.”

Brook didn’t mention it - but the lure of an enormous pay-day and a globally-televised contest broadcast possibly from Wembley stadium may have influenced his decision.

“Everybody would want to see that fight, I just hope we can do it. We are not getting any younger” he told The Star.

“I am going to be there at his next fight (Canadian super welter Phil Lo Greco, Liverpool, April 21) so it will be good for me to be seen there.

“Then we’ll see what happens - you never know what’s going to happen in boxing.”
