KELL BROOK has revealed for the first time the extent of the poor preparation before his last high-profile fight.

The Sheffield welterweight, currently on a two-week training camp in the Canary Islands, admits he ended up having to starve himself to make weight before the bout with American Carson Jones.

“All the way through training, I was having no energy sources, no carbs or anything like that really,” he said. “When I was in the gym they weren’t getting the best out of me because there was nothing in me to get the best out of. My body couldn’t function properly,” he told Fighting Fit magazine.

“At some points I was nearly starving myself. I had the targets in my mind that I needed to make and I made sure I made them. It was the wrong thing to do but we got through it and learned from it.”

Brook, with a new nutritional team behind him, expects no such problems when he faces Argentinian Hector Saldivia on October 20 at Sheffield Arena in an IBF title, final eliminator.
