Hobson counting down to historic boxing show in Sheffield
The historic event to be held at Sheffield Arena on November 20 will be topped by the British title fight between home town fighters Tommy Frank and Kyle Yousaf.
Hobson said: “I’ve been promoting for 30 years now, and have made history a few times before, putting on the world title fight in Doncaster when Jamie McDonnell was successful, helping to make Stuart Hall the first ever world champ from Darlington, and I’ve never wanted to just sit on my hands.
"Everybody is being very supportive, and we could have filled the show three times over with fighters wanting to get on it.
"We’ve got a great top of the bill, and the chief support is a Central Area Title fight between two undefeated Sheffield lads, Kane Salvin and Sufyaan Ahmed. We’re planning on having 500 people at the show, we’ll have VIP pods, big screens, marquees, and it will all be on Eurosport. It’s going to be a really special occasion and experience, and people fortunate enough to be there will be witnessing a bit of history.”
Hobson hopes one of his own fighters, heavyweight Kash Ali, can use his appearance on the show as a springboard to more success.
Hobson said: “Fabio Wardley is the English champion, and that’s a fight Kash has been mentioned for, and other promoters have talked about him as an opponent.
"In boxing it’s so important to get the timing right, and I haven’t just signed Kash as a heavyweight for my stable for the sake of it, it’s because I believe in him.
"Kash has been working on his mentality as well as his physical attributes and technical ability since he’s been training with Richard Towers, and the time is coming where he is going to get his name amongst the top heavyweights.
"Kash would like to sort out the unfinished business he has with David Price. David’s had a couple of losses but his stock is still high, and he’s still a quality fighter. That would be a massive statement and but if we can’t get that fight, then we may go down the international route and get him world rated.”
